Of all the trips I've taken, this one has probably been the hardest but most enjoyable of all. Esther decided to go work for a company in Alaska for the summer, and I decided to tag along... so I packed up my VW Fox, drove from phoenix to Salt Lake City, picked up Esther, and started the drive to Alaska.
What an Experience!!! Up through Utah, Idaho, part of Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Yukon, and then ALASKA!!! All in 4 days. how's that for sleep deprivation?!?
Going thru the states wasn't that bad. But I especially remember entering British columbia, Canada. We left the U.S. at about 8:00 pm, so it was dark and our atlas didn't have a very detailed map of BC. We managed to get on the right highway, but the further we went, the less frequent the gas stations were, the narrower the highway became, and the faster the 18-wheelers would pass US! They were flying, and it scared me half to death driving on a narrow highway in the dark, half-way not knowing where we were, and not knowing how far away the next gas station was.
Ukon Territory was a lot better. Beautiful scenery, sunshine, and living off of trail mix. Plus, by now, we've met up with Esther's sister and friend who we planned to meet in BC. So... now we're not alone.
ALASKA!!! We finally made it!!! A little mal-nourished, and a litte sleep deprived, but hey, we were alive and very glad to see people using American currency again.
I would definitely make the trip again. I would recomend it to ANYONE. Just try to take a little more than 4 days to do it. Slow down, stop to see the sights, and....
-Enjoy!
